Aussies in a field

Set in the middle of a paddock, an orange open sided tent was temporary home for the Australian Exhibit at the 2014 Venice Biennale, constantly engaging with the ‘passer by’.  It was just across the creek (canal) from the currently under construction New Australian Pavilion and will open for the 2015 Art Biennale.

The exhibit itself was one of immersion and forward thinking.  Armed with your smart phone or tablet, you the viewer could lose yourself in a surreal world of what might have been.  Pointing your digital device at the graphics printed on galvanized steel stands representative of historically significant un-built Australian buildings.  You’re drawn into a 3 dimensional representation of what might have been.

If the pavilion had had walls, and was dark, you would likely have found yourself lost for hours – matrix style, delving into what we are so familiar seeing the in movies…surreal, yet real representations of an imagined world.  Yet the rustle of leaves and the changing light, the constant reminder of where you were, brought you back to reality allowing you to ponder what was, what could have been, and where perhaps Architecture is going.
